LEARNING AT HOME - GOOGLE CLASSROOM - MRS ARMOUR'S CLUBHOUSE

Hi Clubhouse Families;

Just a reminder we have moved to GOOGLE CLASSROOM for all our learning. Please remember to sign in with your child's educbe.ca account.

Just a tip - if you are signed in to another Gmail account, the Classroom option for your child does not show up. Check in the top right-hand corner that it is your child's account.

Our GOOGLE MEETS will now be on

WEDNESDAYS at 10:00 - 10:30 am for GRADE 2's

WEDNESDAYS at 10:45 - 11:15 am for GRADE 3's

WEDNESDAYS from 10:30 - 10:45 am is an optional transition time to connect and say hello for all the students in the Clubhouse.

Thank you for reminding your child of our MEET MANNERS.

Please keep your microphone off so we don't hear all the background noise.
Please use the "chat" screen to type questions or let Mrs Armour know you have something to share.
Please wait to have something to eat until AFTER our Meet.
Please stay in one spot during our Meet (if you need to leave that's okay, please don't carry your screen around with you - we all get dizzy:)

Remember to give me feedback if you have any questions or concerns using email.

Learning Plan Week #3 (Information for Google Classroom)

Dear Clubhouse families,

Thank you for being so patient and understanding as we move into our second week of learning.

We are going to be moving to Google Classroom and Google Meet next week to deliver our learning plans and connect with students.

To send tasks and assignments to you through Google Classroom, we will be sending an invite to your child’s school username@educbe.ca email account.

To join the Classroom, login to their email, open the Invitation from me, click the join button and your child will have ongoing access to my classroom. There they will be able to see the tasks I have assigned them and can click on each one for instructions, worksheets, links and any tools they will require.

There are a couple of videos there to give you a bit of a "tour". Please take the time to read and explore these.

If you are accessing this through your tablet or phone, please download the google classroom app.

Please note, my Google Classroom will not be accessible until this Friday at 3:30pm. Your email will arrive at that time.

If you have any questions or difficulties with accessing the Google Classroom, please email me at hjarmour@cbe.ab.ca so that I can help you.  If you need paper copies of any of the materials, please email me as well so that I can get these ready for you.

Remember we will also be having a Google Meet meeting on Tuesday, April 14th, at 10:30 am.  To access Google Meet is the same process to access the classroom.  Watch for an email Tuesday morning at that time
to click and join.

Here is a link to help you connect to Google Meet for Tuesday, April 14th at 10:30 am. https://insite.cbe.ab.ca/teaching/learning_tools/Documents/4-Students-How-to-Google-Meet.pdf

Here are the links from the email you received earlier this week.

Accessing Google Meet or Classroom for the First Time

Google provides excellent resources to help with signing into Google Classroom and joining a class, along with other supports.

Looking forward to seeing you all there! This information will also be posted on the classroom blog.

We are learning together. Our priority continues to be everyone's health, both mental and physical. Please connect with myself or Mrs. Polski if you need anything.

Update for Links to Doc and Resources

Hello!

I'm hoping these links will help make things easier to find!

This is a link to the google doc to find this week's learning tasks

This is a link to a sample weekly schedule shared by one of our parents - thank you!

IF you are a student who is working on your legibility (forming letters/printing neatly) continue to do your "writing warm-up" exercises...this can be done on a large scrap piece of paper - even if it has old writing on it. What are these exercises you ask? Nice and loose make 10 circles to the right, 10 circles to the left, 10 squares going clockwise, 10 counter-clockwise, and 10 "X's"...your child should be familiar with these as we started every morning with them.

PLEASE EMAIL MRS. ARMOUR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.

Have a great week of learning!

Welcome to Learning-From-Home April 6-10

Learning From Home – Week #1 April 6-10

Dear Parents:
As you know we have been given guidelines from Alberta Education that suggest we provide approximately 5 hours of schoolwork per week focused mainly on literacy and math. We will work to follow these guidelines but also hope to continue integrating more of our science and social studies work that students have already started. Each week we also hope that you will be able to determine a schedule that works best for your family. Each task has an estimated amount of minutes per week that the task may take. This is just an approximation, each student will work at their individual pace.

We would really appreciate feedback by the end of the week about a few things. We are all figuring this out together and want to make sure the work we are doing is working for you. Please send me an email and comment on:
  • How was the workload? Do you need more things to keep your child going or was it difficult to work through the activities provided?
  • What activities were tough?
  • What areas need more practice?
  • Where is your child ready for more of a challenge?
We will do our best to adjust things for the weeks to come based on your feedback.

The basic instructions for each task are here on the blog. We have shared this same document with all the worksheets and visuals to your child’s google docs. The document is called Learning From Home Week 1. Your child can access this by logging in to their email account (ending with educbe.ca).

You can also add by clicking this link.

Dear Students;
Welcome to our first week of learning-from-home. Each week we will send you tasks to complete and ways to show us how things are going. We know that things are weird right now and depending on your family’s situation it may be challenging to complete everything. Don’t worry, it’s ok if you can’t do everything or if you need to take some extra time. Just let your teacher know if you need help. We will be working every day and can be contacted via email if you need anything.

How to “Hand In” Your Work
  • We would like you to do all your week’s work on Google Docs. Please share your document as soon as you create it. This will allow us to see your work at any time during the week, whether you are finished or not. We can comment and help with edits.
          For sharing:

  • How you organize your work in Google Docs is up to you and your parents.
  • We would suggest that you give each subject a title and put all the work underneath it. To help you with this, we have put all the headings in red.
  • If you have access to a printer, you may want to print out this document and do the work on the worksheets (ie Science/cursive writing) and then take a picture of it. Please insert the picture into your google doc.

LITERACY - DAILY FIVE

READ TO SELF 20 mins/day
  • Please also make sure you are doing at least 20 minutes of reading every day. For one of these days, we ask that you complete a read to self ticket (grade 3's only/grade 2's optional). You can just fill this out on your google doc. Tell us what book you are reading and write a sentence telling us what was your favourite part and why.
  • If you need some new books to read please check out the Calgary Public Library for some great e-books or you can find books in the Raz-kids reading room. On the link section of the blog there are some links for the Tumblebooks libraries also.

CURSIVE WRITING 10 mins
  • On a piece of lined paper, write down the riddle and the answer twice. You can also print this sheet out and fill it in that way too. It is not necessary to hand this in, have your parents admire your lovely handwriting.

WORK ON WRITING (WOW): 30 mins
  • Each week we will give you a writing prompt for your assignment. Each week mom or dad will decide if you are going to write your WOW entry on the computer or on a piece of paper. Learning to type is a great skill but it is also important to keep practicing your printing skills by writing on a piece of paper or your own journal book at home. Mom and Dad will help you find a balance between these skills. It is not ok to argue with Mom and Dad’s decision on this. We are giving this choice to them, not to you.
  • Here is this week’s Work on Writing, WOW #1

Tell me how your family is adjusting to our new staying safe measures. Are mom and dad working from home? What are you doing to stay busy and entertained? How are you feeling about all these changes?

Writing checklist:

  1. Make a plan, including a beginning, middle, and end for your journal
  2. Interesting beginning- make your beginning catchy and wanting the reader to read on
  3. You should have 2 similes
  4. Using interesting and juicy/descriptive words (nouns, verbs, adjectives)
  5. Brainstorm a word bank with your parents or older sibling
  6. Make sure you use description when telling us what you have been doing (use the 5 senses - what do you hear/see/smell/touch/taste? - when you can)
  7. Good concluding sentence to wrap up your journal
Writing expectations:

Grade 2: 8-10 sentences
Grade 3: 10-14 sentences

LISTEN TO READING 30 mins
  • Please complete your assignment on Raz-Kids. You must listen and read the book before completing the quiz.  Only complete the quiz once

MATH

Math Daily Warm Up 10-20 mins each
Look carefully at the bottom right-hand corner of each problem to do the problem for your grade level. We would like you to try and complete one problem each day. We will give you the answers next week and you can see if you did the problems correctly.
Remember to
1. Highlight the important words (if you print it out)
2. Show your work.
3. Write a number sentence.
4. Write a word sentence.

MATH ACTIVITY 30 mins

The sheets we would like you to complete are in the google doc we shared to you. We will give you the answers at the end of the week.

MATHLETICS 30 mins
Please complete the Warm-up and Activity first.
This week, please login to mathletics and do the activities assigned to you. Remember to use Safari or Explorer instead of Google Chrome for the best results.

SCIENCE 30 mins
Print out and complete the sheet on the google doc. If you can’t print it, that is okay, you can just type up the answers on your google doc, write them down on a piece of paper and send a picture.
This experiment asks you to use materials you may not have at your house. Be creative and use things that you have around your house. Do not feel that you have to have the exact materials. Mom and Dad can help you with this. Cardstock and index cards are a stronger type of paper, so if you only have regular paper you may want to double or triple it or fold it a couple of times.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

GYM
Let’s keep moving every day! This week we were supposed to start our dance residency with DANCEPL3Y. Since we aren’t able to work with them in-person they very kindly sent a Youtube link so you can dance along at home! Enjoy! DANCEPL3Y HERE

Welcome Back Message Monday March 30

Hi Clubhouse Students and Parents;

What a different "Welcome back to school!" day this was for all of us! Thank you so much for all your support and understanding as we move into this new adventure of learning from home. Mumford the dog has been the most excited as he gets at least two walks a day now! Meg is home from university (yay!) so we now have three students and one teacher all busy learning and working from our home. I miss seeing all of your smiling faces in our busy classroom, but we will stay connected and get through this together! Our school community is here to support you. Do not hesitate to reach out to me or Mrs. Polski if your family needs anything.

Moving forward, our learning plans will be posted on our blog starting this Friday, with the assignments for the following week. We hope that by providing this on Fridays you will be able to work with your child to make a schedule for the upcoming week that works for you.

Before we begin providing our weekly learning tasks, we need some information from you to help us meet the needs of each family. This week, please work together with your parents to send me an email by Wednesday, April 1st - no fooling😉 (hjarmour@cbe.ab.ca).
In the email please answer the following questions:
1.How are things going? What have you been up to?
2 .What is your family plan for learning-from-home? When do you think you will  do your schoolwork? What challenges do you anticipate you might encounter with learning from home?
3. What technology can you use for school (eg. Computer, laptop, iPad, tablet etc.)? Do you have access to the internet? Is your only option a paper-based learning package?
4. Do you have access to a printer?
5. Are you able to log-in to your Google account? You will use your email address ending in @educbe.ca and your school password (just like logging-in to the computers at school).
6. Do you have any questions or concerns for me?

Please also continue reading in Raz-kids and complete this week’s assignments in Mathletics.

I miss you all and I am excited to start learning together again, even if it is remotely. Take care of yourself and your family.

Mrs. Armour
